About This Course
The MCA approved Fire Safety course is aimed at skippers and crew of small workboats and small commercial vessels. The course has been launched primarily to meeting the manning requirements of Workboat Code 3.
The course also meets the requirements for those applying for their MCA Boatmaster Licence (BML).
The course aims to provide candidates with the knowledge of how fire starts on board and how to prevent it, and ensure they are confident in the procedures to follow in the event of a fire.
What We Cover
The MCA Fire Safety course is delivered using a combination of classroom sessions and practical session (using extinguishers and fire blankets) to consolidate the skills and procedures taught. The course covers:
Understanding how fire starts and spreads through a vessel
Actions to be taken on the discovery of a fire or up on hearing the alarm
Fire-fighting systems onboard
The different types and correct use of extinguishers
Practical use of fire fighting equipment using our live fire training simulator.
Pre-Course Requirements
Candidates undergoing firefighting training must be physically fit and will be required to complete and sign a confidential medical declaration to make us aware of any health problems, disabilities or injuries that we may need to take into account whilst attending this physically demanding course.
Assessment and Certification
Candidates are subject to a short written assessment, along with observation assessment during the practical fire drill.
Following successful completion of the course, you will receive an MCA Approved Fire Safety certificate.
