RYA Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore Exam
YACHTMASTER COASTAL / OFFSHORE EXAM
It is recommended that you attend one of our Yachtmaster Coastal/Offshore Prep courses to put you in the best position possible to pass this exam. Below are the requirements and details for the exams. If you have any questions, please contact us.
RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal Exam Prerequisites
30 days at sea (including 2 days as skipper)
800 sea miles (reduced to 400 if candidate holds the Coastal Skipper course completion certificate)
12 night hours
RYA/MCA VHF radio operators certificate
RYA approved First Aid Certificate
Theory knowledge to the standard of RYA Coastal Skipper Theory
Minimum Age at time of exam is 17, and candidates must bring all completed paperwork and certificates with them to the exam to show the examiner. The exam will last approximately 6-10 hours for 1 candidate, 4-8 hours per candidate where there is more than 1.
Please note that the exam fee is not included in the course cost and is set by the RYA. Current Yachtmaster Coastal exam fee is £208(subject to change).
RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Exam Prerequisites
50 days at sea (including 5 days as skipper)
2500 sea miles (reduced to 1250 if candidate holds another RYA certificate of competence)
5 passages over 60 miles long, which must include 2 overnight passages and 2 as skipper.
RYA/MCA VHF radio operators certificate
RYA approved First Aid Certificate
Theory knowledge to the standard of RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Theory
Minimum Age at time of exam is 18, and candidates must bring all completed paperwork and certificates with them to the exam to show the examiner. The exam will last approximately 8 to 12 hours for one candidate and 5 - 9 hours per candidate where two or more are being examined.
