RYA Day Skipper Theory
Introduction to navigation.
A comprehensive introduction nautical theory for inexperienced skippers.
This course equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. A basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night time powerboating. The course teaches both traditional and electronic navigation techniques.
The course is usually taught over 6 consecutive days, and whilst it can at times be challenging, the rewards and the level of knowledge obtained upon completion is quite satisfying.
Our courses go the extra mile to ensure those working in a commercial setting understand how to apply their new found knowledge to this sector. The courses are suitable for any person using a workboat, powerboat, motor cruiser and yachts.
This course can be attended at one of our training centres in either Kinlochleven in the Scottish Highlands or at James Watt Dock Marina in Greenock, just west of Glasgow on the Clyde Estuary.

Construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat
Emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety Harnesses, lifejackets and life rafts.
Suitable for: inexperienced skippers using workboats, powerboats, motor cruisers and sailing yachts.
Duration: The course is 40 hours plus homework and exams. Taught over 6 days.
Included: Course materials, handbook, RYA Almanac and Portland Plotter & Dividers.
Student to Instructor Ratio: 12:1 max.
